Island Day at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi: Here's what to expect, how to register

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will hold its annual Island Day with two events in February and one in March.

Island Day, the campus's official preview event, is designed to showcase the university for prospective students so they can get the full Islander experience and learn the next steps to enroll.

Two in-person events will occur Feb. 5 and March 26, and a virtual program will take place Feb. 12.

Rene Zamora, assistant director of recruitment and admissions, said the free event is not an orientation. He said Island Day is a full day of fun activities.

"We host a big opening session where they'll be able to hear our pep band and get that school spirit feeling," Zamora said. "They'll also be able to sit in an academic classroom and get an idea of what it's like to be a student here. We'll have lunch opportunities and have a big department fair to learn about our services and student organizations."

Zamora said the event is interactive and will include personal breakout sessions for prospective students to learn about housing and veterans benefits, meet with admissions counselors, and tour the campus.

As well, those who attend will be able to meet current students who will share their personal experiences about campus life.

Attendees will be given a continental breakfast, a meal from the university's dining catering office and snacks throughout the day. Prospective students will leave with a free T-shirt.

The virtual event will be a condensed version of the in-person meetings. Zamora said it will still provide students an opportunity to learn their next steps and meet current Islanders. Registration for the online event closes Feb. 10.

"We really encourage students to come because it will give them an idea if this place is a right fit for them or not," Zamora said.
