ISP responds to more than 500 crashes Monday due to freezing rain

ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Illinois State Police have responded to more than 500 crashes Monday due to the freezing rain and ice.

Across Illinois, State Police have responded to 257 motorists assists, 222 property damage crashes and 39 personal injury crashes.

Much of Central Illinois is in Troop 7 and Troop 9. According to ISP data, troopers helped with 32 motorist assists, 38 property damage crashes, and seven personal injury crashes.

State Police officials asked residents Monday morning to limit their travel due to the inclement weather.

Dozens of schools and buildings across Central Illinois have closed due to the weather.
