Israeli police: Knife-wielding Palestinian woman shot dead

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — Israeli police say private security guards at a checkpoint near Jerusalem shot and killed a Palestinian woman after she pulled out a knife at the crossing.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld says the woman was taken to a hospital where she died of her wounds, adding that Wednesday's incident at the Qalandia checkpoint "is being looked into."

The Palestinian Health Ministry says video shows three Israeli security forces approaching the woman and one of them shooting her.

Palestinians have carried out dozens of stabbing attacks in recent years, mainly in the occupied West Bank and annexed east Jerusalem. Israeli forces have killed a number of Palestinians who they said were carrying knives with the intent to attack. The Palestinians have accused Israeli forces of using excessive force.
