Voting "no" on Issue 1 just a start

It's a start, but it's not enough to just vote no on Issue 1.

The power-hungry autocratic-leaning so-called public servants who support this "take-away-your-rights" bill have to be defeated at their next election.

Our view: 'Power-hungry hypocrites' trying to con Ohio. Issue 1 about dominance, deceit

Kick them all out of office, and vote for public servants who will actually work for the common Ohioan, not just the rich and powerful who support them.

Who's really playing God?

Martha Sanders chastised anti-abortion activists in her letter "God doesn't need your help (June 29.)" She resented the pro-life claim that reversing abortion has "saved thousands of babies."

She postulated that it was wrong to save babies who were likely to be born into poverty, drugs, or "the most horrific lifepath of all" to be born unwanted.

Letters: The special election is a farce. God doesn't need your help

Poverty is not an immutable condition.

Many people born into unfortunate circumstances have risen above such conditions to lead successful and fulfilling lives. Denying them that opportunity is indeed playing God.

Sanders abjured pro-lifers to "stop playing God" which is rather hypocritical given her approval for abortionists to play God and end lives.

Don't be duped.

To all who suffer from the misinformation spewed by right wing politicians, and to the religious factions who have us caught in far-right, fear-mongering propaganda, here are the facts. Issue 1 does not protect the Constitution.

More: 'Power-hungry hypocrites' trying to con Ohio. Issue 1 about dominance, deceit| Our view

It seeks to thwart citizen-led ballot initiatives by removing the Ohio Constitutional protection of a 50% +1 majority, enshrined in our constitution since 1912.

A "no" vote on Issue 1 preserves that right.

Don't be duped.

Join the non-partisan Ohioans who put democracy, fair government and the sanctity of one voice, one vote over an obvious political power grab. Vote "no" on Aug. 8.

Make solar power accessible to all Ohioans

I had a solar array installed four years ago, annually saving my family $1,000 on electricity.

Unfortunately, many Ohio families can’t do the same due to issues like not owning their home or lack of upfront resources.

That's why I support House Bill 197 for a community solar pilot program.

Community solar allows individuals, businesses, and organizations to subscribe to a local project, receiving monthly credits on their electric bill determined by their share.

This program could save utility subscribers 10-20%.

Besides personal savings, community solar drives economic investment and job creation. The bill encourages companies to invest in Ohio, improving electric service reliability as community solar developers cover the cost of electrical infrastructure upgrades.

It also aids energy independence by building solar power where needed, reducing the need for extra transmission lines, and preserving Ohio farmlands. Community solar is ready to save Ohio families money, create jobs, and power a more reliable electric system. I urge state policymakers to support HB 197, making solar accessible to all Ohioans for cheaper, cleaner energy.
