Italian Firefighters Use Plane to Battle Greek Wildfire as Part of EU Response

Italian firefighters used an airplane to battle wildfires in Greece on August 15, operating as part of a deployment of the European Union’s civic protection mechanism, rescEU.

Villages have been evacuated in parts of Greece in recent days as the country has been hit by a number of fires.

On 13 August, Greece requested assistance from other EU members; following this, three firefighting airplanes were deployed from Spain and Italy, according to the European Commission. Credit: Vigili del Fuoco via Storyful
