New Italian and Greek restaurant coming to Surfside Beach. Here’s when it will open

A new Italian and Greek restaurant is set to open in Surfside Beach.

Christos Italian Kitchen will open in the former Lazer’s Pizza location, 1450 Highway 17 Business North. The restaurant will be operated by brothers who named the restaurant after their late father, Christos Zachary, said co-owner James “Jimmy” Zachary.

“We wanted to dedicate it to our father who worked all his life in restaurants,” Zachary said.

The restaurant is currently being remodeled with the goal of opening in the next two months, Zachary said.

The restaurant will offer Italian and Greek dishes, including pizza, subs, calzones, salads and certain Greek food.

Zachary has spent the last 32 years operating Zachary’s Restaurant in St. Pauls, North Carolina. He said the menu of Christos Italian Kitchen will offer 99% of what was available at Zachary’s Restaurant.

The Zachary family began making pizzas in the Waterbury, Connecticut, area in 1955 with Zachary’s Pizza House, according to Jimmy Zachary.

Relatives, including Zachary’s father and brothers, have opened Greek and Italian restaurants throughout New York, Vermont and Connecticut.
