Downhill Olympic champion Sofia Goggia claimed her first World Cup victory in her pet event on Saturday in Austria's Altenmarkt-Zauchensee.

The Italian, who won downhill gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics, had only a super-g victory so far this season, and was relieved to complete Saturday's race with the best time of 1 minutes 46.47 seconds.

Stephanie Venier got close to a home win but finished .10 of a second behind Goggia to be in the podium for the first time this season. Her Austria team-mate and 2022 Olympic silver medallist Mirjam Puchner was third.

There was a scary moment during Kajsa Vickhoff Lie's run, when the Norwegian jammed and hit the safety net with full force. The race was briefly interrupted as Lie was able to get up without assistance.

Not competing was American runaway World Cup leader Mikaela Shiffrin.

A men's downhill in Wengen, Switzerland is scheduled for later on Saturday.
