ITV announces new measures for Catchphrase as Stephen Mulhern-fronted show returns to filming on July 6

From Digital Spy

Catchphrase is resuming filming next week with enhanced health and safety measures, ITV has announced.

The gameshow, which is hosted by Stephen Mulhern, will be the first ITV entertainment show to resume production following the lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic when it starts filming new episodes on July 6.

A number of protocols have been implemented to ensure the safety of everyone taking part in the filming including physical changes to the set, the creation of working 'bubble' groups and staggered start times.

All contributors and crew will have their temperatures checked on a daily basis, crew members will maintain social distancing and equipment will be assigned to individual crew members. Daily intensive cleaning and sanitisation of filming areas and studios will also take place.

The main change that viewers will see on-screen is that there will be no live audience in the studio.

"We were always due to start filming now so it's great that we are in a position that we can do so," Mulhern said in a statement.

"It feels so good to be back in the studio and it's taken a huge amount of work from the crew and all at STV Productions who make the show and ITV who broadcast it to get us back up and running safely. We can't wait to start."

STV Production's Creative Director, Entertainment, Gary Chippington assured fans that they can still expect to see the Catchphrase they know and love.

He said: "Be in no doubt, the fun and antics that viewers expect from each and every episode of Catchphrase will very much be central to the mix. We're thrilled to be going back into studio."

10 new episodes will be recorded during this filming period and are expected to be broadcast on ITV and STV this autumn.
