ITV shares trailer for Yorkshire Ripper dramaITV

ITV has released the first trailer for The Long Shadow, a true-crime drama detailing the police investigation to find and stop the Yorkshire Ripper.

The trailer is your typical crime drama stuff, we see the police make an appeal for people to come forward, a grieving family on the news talk about the tragic loss of their child, someone walks around a field, and people muse about how time is running out.

The drama has assembled a strong cast, with Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Katherine Kelly, Jill Halfpenny, Liz White, Jasmine Lee-Jones, and Lee Ingleby – fresh off The Hunt for Raoul Moat and Screw series 2, which dropped just this week over on Channel 4.

This 7-part series is aiming to tell a new side to the horrific story, by focusing on the victims and their families.

Jones is playing DCS Dennis Hoban, while Morrissey is playing DCS George Oldfield and Ingleby is DCS Jim Hobson, three of the main officers who worked to find and stop Peter Sutcliffe. Kelly is playing Emily Jackson, with Mays as her husband, and Jill Halfpenny has been cast as Doreen Hill.

ITV's Head of Drama, Polly Hill, said: "George [Kay]'s scripts and Lewis [Arnold]'s direction together with this wonderful cast have produced a sensitive and brilliant drama that we are proud to have on ITV."

"George Kay, Lewis Arnold and an exceptional cast have bought to life an important event drama that is as tragically resonant today as it was over 40 years ago," added Willow Grylls, CEO of production company New Pictures.

The Long Shadow will air on ITV1 and stream on ITVX later this year.
