The third and final of IU's marquee nonconference matchups was Saturday as the 16th-ranked Hoosiers traveled to Lawrence and Allen Fieldhouse to take on No. 6 Kansas.

The key pregame storyline was the availability of IU's star freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, who had been out since the win over UNC with a sore back. He returned to the starting lineup, but the Hoosiers lost its other point guard Xavier Johnson to injury midway through the first half Saturday.

It didn't get much better from there. Here's how it went down.

3 reasons IU lost to Kansas: Xavier Johnson injury underscores ugly day on both ends

FINAL: Kansas 84, IU 62

Back to the drawing board. "Wire-to-wire domination," Dick Vitale said. "Just wire-to-wire."

3:58 2H: Kansas 75, IU 53

Just waiting for the final score.

If you're so inclined to look for positives, Trayce Jackson-Davis has nine blocks.

Unfortunately for IU fans, the Hoosiers are shooting 35% from the floor and have 21 turnovers. No bueno.

7:58 2H: Kansas 66, IU 46

Nineteen turnovers not really giving the Hoosiers a chance. But at least the Colts are winning (is that a good thing, though?).

12:09 2H: Kansas 58, IU 40

Hoosiers had cut the lead to 10, but it's climbing again.

13:10 2H: Kansas 54, IU 38

A quick 6-0 spurt from Kansas helps slow some of the Hoosiers' momentum.

16:06 2H: Kansas 48, IU 38

Despite everything that's gone wrong for IU, it's only a 10-point game. Kansas has given away its share of turnovers (11) and Trayce Jackson-Davis seems to have renewed energy to start the second half.

HALFTIME: Kansas 44, IU 29

IU trailed Arizona by 19 in the first half last week. It trailed Kansas by 22 at one point in the first half Saturday. Pretty clear this program isn't ready for the marquee matchups its fan base has been begging for for years.

3:33 1H: Kansas 37, IU 20

11 turnovers. Zero points from TJD. An injury to Xavier Johnson. Everything that can go wrong for IU, has.

5:20 1H: Kansas 34, IU 17

Now 11 turnovers for the Hoosiers.

6:36 1H: Kansas 28, IU 17

Xavier Johnson went back to the locker room with trainer Tim Garl after suffering a lower leg injury. Looks like any Hoosiers comeback will need to be engineered without him. Expect more minutes for Tamar Bates and Trey Galloway.

IU is up to nine turnovers already.

9:13 1H: Kansas 23, IU 12

Xavier Johnson is down in some obvious pain. That's not good.

11:51 1H: Kansas 21, IU 8

It ain't pretty. IU wasn't ready for primetime in Vegas last week, and apparently lunchtime is an issue, too.

16:14 1H: Kansas 12, IU 2

The Jayhawks are cooking. Race Thompson has IU's only basket. Mike Woodson wants a timeout.

17:32 1H: Kansas 7, IU 0

A few misses from Hood-Schifino and Kansas is doing a good job down low on Trayce Jackson-Davis.

And apparently Lawrence has turned into Bloomington West.
