IU football players in transfer portal

LB Dasan McCullough, Fr.

The son of Deland McCullough, IU's former running backs coach now at Notre Dame, Dasan McCullough will undoubtedly be highly sought after. He appeared in all 12 games this season as a true freshman, recording 49 total tackles, 6.5 for loss and tied for the team lead with four sacks.

TE AJ Barner, Jr.

The Hoosiers' starting tight end and a team captain, Barner caught 28 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns (second-most on team) this past season. In 2021, he caught 14 passes for 162 yards and a score.

DB Chris Keys, So.

Keys missed most of the 2021 season after a serious knee injury but appeared in nine games, including two starts this past season. He had 15 total tackles and two passes defended this year, and figured to be in competition for a starting cornerback spot in 2023.

QB Connor Bazelak, R-Jr.

A transfer from Missouri, Bazelak started the first eight games of 2022, guiding the Hoosiers to three wins to begin the season, including two 300-yard performances in comeback wins over Illinois and Western Kentucky. He was sidelined because of injury, and then for inefficiency. Bazelak threw for 2,312 yards and 13 touchdowns but lost his starting job to Dexter Williams II late in the season.

QB Jack Tuttle, Sr.

Tuttle announced his intention to transfer in October, but the team captain remained a part of the team and was thrust into action after Connor Bazelak was injured/benched. He started vs. Penn State, completing 9-of-12 passes for 82 yards and a touchdown before he was lost for the season to injury.

In 2019, Tuttle was behind Michael Penix Jr. and Peyton Ramsey and threw just 11 passes, completing six for 34 yards. In 2020 and 2021 Penix was again named the starter, but in both cases Tuttle had to take over due to injury. He completed 44-of-72 passes for 362 yards in 2020, leading the Hoosiers to a key win over Wisconsin late in the season after Penix tore his ACL, though they lost to Ole Miss in the Outback Bowl with him at the helm.

In 2021, Tuttle started two games in October after Penix injured his shoulder and completed 45-of-87 passes for two touchdowns but also threw five interceptions. He injured his ankle throwing a touchdown pass in the Hoosiers' loss to Ohio State and wasn't fully healthy the rest of the season.

K Charles Campbell, R-Sr.

Campbell ends his career at Indiana 76.5% on field goals and perfect in 73 extra point attempts. He was second-team All-Big Ten in 2020, but struggled at the end of 2022, missing three kicks in his last two games. He was 14-for-20 overall in his last season.

WR Malachi Holt-Bennett, So.

Holt-Bennett caught six passes for 90 yards this season, with most of that production coming in the season-finale vs. Purdue (three catches for 50 yards). He had one catch in 2021 (vs. Minnesota), his lone touchdown for the Hoosiers.

WR Javon Swinton, Jr.

Swinton caught 12 passes for 122 yards this past season after catching 15 for 115 yards and a score in 2021.

DB Lemuel Watley-Neely, R-So.

Primarily a special teams player, the Harper Woods, Mich. product appeared in 10 games and made nine total tackles this past season.

QB Grant Gremel, R-Jr.

The Noblesville grad appeared in five games in 2021 and made his lone collegiate start in that year's Old Oaken Bucket. He was 32-of-58 for 147 yards for his career and didn't see action this past season.

RB Charlie Spegal, So.

The state's all-time leading rusher in IHSAA history, Spegal won 2019 IndyStar Mr. Football and was a preferred walk-on for IU. Often cited by coaches as a top member of the scout team, Spegal rushed 19 times for 62 yards in 2021, but didn't register a carry this past season.

DB Josh Sanguinetti, R-Jr.

CB Tiawan Mullen, Sr.

DB Devon Matthews, Gr.

IU's defensive player of the year in 2021, Matthews started 10 games this year with 65 total tackles, three tackles for loss and three pass breakups. He finished his Hoosiers career with 217 total tackles and four interceptions.

DB Jaylin Williams, Sr.

WR D.J. Matthews, Gr.

After arriving from Florida State, Matthews was a lone bright spot for the Hoosiers' offense early in 2021 before suffering a season-ending knee injury on a punt return. This past season, he appeared in seven games and caught 23 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns.
