A.J. Brown on facing Tennessee Titans: 'Today, I'm gonna have to give you this whooping'

PHILADELPHIA — Wide receiver A.J. Brown was blunt about how he felt after taking down his former team.

The Tennessee Titans lost 35-10 versus Brown and the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in a game that Brown took over, catching eight passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Less than a year after the Titans (7-5) traded Brown to the Eagles (11-1) for draft picks, Brown got a chance to make a statement against his former team.

"Today, I’m going to have to give you this whooping," Brown said about his approach to the game postgame. "But I still love you though."

Brown admitted he had "mixed emotions" after the trade. The Titans dealt Brown on draft night after the team and fourth-year receiver couldn't agree to terms on a contract extension. Knowing this game was coming up, Brown said he'd be lying to say he "didn't have this one circled."

Factoring in sacks, the Titans passed for 122 net yards Sunday, just 3 more yards than Brown accounted for on his own.

Here's what Titans coach Mike Vrabel and Brown's former Titans teammates said about his big day at their expense:

Tennessee Titans players on A.J. Brown's game:

"A.J. had a good game. We can’t give up big plays on defense. We tried to make them earn it coming into the game, and we clearly weren’t able to." – Vrabel

"We all know AJ is a good player. That’s just proof in the pudding. We hate to see it happen. He’s got bragging rights now." – outside linebacker Bud Dupree

"We knew they were going to get A.J. the ball early. They did. He made plays and we didn’t. We just didn’t play well. At all. A lot of it was just one-on-one plays that they made and we didn’t." – safety Kevin Byard

"It seemed like a regular game to him to me. He just made the plays that came to him." – cornerback Kristian Fulton

"He’s a heckuva player. We all knew that coming into this. You never want him to do it on you. I love A.J. to death. He’s one of my good friends. Talk to him all the time. He has a little girl that I know. We wish him the best. But hopefully next time it’s not against us." – center Ben Jones

"He made plays. He’s not with us no more. He’s a helluva player. But we didn’t make enough plays. He made plays downfield. It doesn’t matter if it was A.J. or anybody else. We lost. That’s what hard to swallow." – defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons

"He’s on the other team. He’s been on that team for 12 games. That’s been done and over with. We’ve got to be better as a team. We need to execute. We can’t focus on one person. It’s about what we need to do, focus on ourself and how we can get better." – running back Derrick Henry
