MISHAWAKA — J. Crew is closing its location at the University Park Mall in Mishawaka by the end of the month.

On Thursday, items were discounted up to 60% off inside the store, with the men's section toward the back already bare.

A store manager would not answer questions about the closure and referred a Tribune reporter to customer service. Customer service advised emailing corporate and the Tribune did not receive an immediate response.

J. Crew filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2020 and was approved for a financial restructuring plan that August. According to Fashion Network, J. Crew Group CEO Jan Singer said the company’s strategy will be focused on three core pillars: offering a focused selection of products, augmenting the brand experience to improve the retailer’s relationship with customers, and “prioritizing frictionless shopping.”

The women's and men's clothing retailer follows several other stores inside the Mishawaka mall, such as Sears, Aldo, the Disney Store and Jos. A. Bank, that have closed in the last two years. Several storefronts inside University Park Mall remain vacant, with signs advertising for retailers to fill the space.

The Mishawaka store's last day will be Jan. 23. Signs refer customers to shop online at jcrew.com. The nearest location is a J. Crew Factory store in Michigan City.
