J. K. Rowling shares heartfelt tribute to Alan Rickman's Severus Snape

From Cosmopolitan

Thanks to coronavirus, many of us are self isolating in our homes, and have more time on our hands than ever. For some, that means more time to dedicate to reading. For others, it's a chance to nail a home workout.

And for all, it's an opportunity to rewatch the Harry Potter franchise, and thoroughly enjoy Alan Rickman's brilliant performance as Severus Snape.

Yesterday [7 April], a fan did exactly that, and took to social media to share how they're never going to get over his character. Same, tbh. @Daisy_94e wrote:

"Tonight in Italy they air “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow Part 2”. As always, I’m NOT ready to say goodbye to Severus Snape Thank you @jk_rowling for this unique character and for convincing Alan Rickman to portray him - we had the perfect Severus Snape."

The Harry Potter author J. K. Rowling replied to the tweet with a heartbreaking memory from the Harry Potter And The Cursed Child play set, where she revealed she thought she saw Alan.

"In Harry Potter & the Cursed Child, Snape makes his first appearance with his back to the audience," she revealed. "At the dress rehearsal I saw him in his long black wig & my eyes filled with tears because, for a split second, my irrational heart believed when Snape turned round, I'd see Alan."

The legendary actor died on January 14, 2016, after a battle with cancer, aged 69. Before his death, Alan spoke to the Los Angeles Times about how proud he was of playing Snape for a decade, and how it was cause for celebration.

"It was a punctuation mark in my life every year because I would be doing other things but always come back to that, and I was always aware of my place in the story even as others around me were not," Rickman told the publication.

"Am I sad [that it's coming to an end]? The point about a great story is that it's got a beginning, a middle and end. The ending of this story was quite popular and beautifully judged by Jo Rowling and David Yates, so it's not a cause for sadness; it's a cause for celebration that it was rounded off so well."
