Ja Morant injury update: Here's an encouraging sign ahead of Grizzlies-Lakers Game 3

LOS ANGELES — The anticipation of Ja Morant's return from injury has built as the Memphis Grizzlies point guard made shots with his right hand during shootaround Saturday morning ahead of Game 3 of their NBA playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Saturday's shootaround was the first time reporters have seen Morant shooting since he reaggravated a soft tissue bruise in his hand after falling in the fourth quarter of Game 1. The best-of-seven series is tied 1-1.

Morant missed Game 2, but the Grizzlies listed him as a gametime decision ahead of that 103-93 win. On Saturday, Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins said Morant was a full participant in a non-contact practice and would go through two more individual workouts to test out his right hand.

During Saturday's shootaround, Morant took spot-up 3-point jumpers while wearing black tape on his right hand. Morant had only been seen doing dribbling and shooting with his left hand before Saturday.

"He looked good," Grizzlies guard Luke Kennard said. "We had a great couple days here so far. and he looked good so far. He was able to shoot the ball some, so we'll see how it goes."

Morant is still listed as a gametime decision for Saturday night (9 p.m., ESPN, Bally Sports Southeast).
