Is Jack's Brother on ‘This Is Us’ *Really* Dead? This Not-So-Crazy Theory Says Otherwise

*Warning: Spoilers ahead*

Last night’s episode of This Is Us left me with several questions: What grudge is Nick (Michael Angarano) holding against his brother, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia)? Why is Kevin (Justin Hartley) so cheesy? And where art thou, Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown)?

But when I looked past the lingering story lines, I couldn’t help but notice Jack’s subtle hint about what really happened in Vietnam. In fact, I’m starting to think Nicky didn’t die during the war, and this conspiracy theory is proof.

Here’s what you need to know: In season three, episode seven of This Is Us, titled “Sometimes,” Jack travels to Los Angeles with Rebecca (Mandy Moore), who is meeting with a record label. After dropping her off, Jack visits the parents of a fallen soldier, Squirrel, and takes responsibility for his football-related death in Vietnam.

“Taking my eye off your son, that—it was the worst thing I did,” Jack says.

Why is it important? The key words are “worst thing I did.” If Squirrel’s death was his “worst thing” during the war, then maybe there’s more to Nick’s story than he’s letting on.

Get this: What if Nick is still alive? I mean, if Nicky had died in Vietnam, I highly doubt Jack would call Squirrel’s death his “worst thing.” Which is why I think that Jack faked his brother’s death, so he could stay in Vietnam with the necklace-wearing woman. (After all, the identity of the little boy’s father is still unknown.)

While I could be reading too far into Jack’s quote, I wouldn’t be surprised if the writers pulled a fast one on us. (You know, similar to when Jack died in the hospital, not the house fire. Never forget.)
