Jack in the Box now offering boba tea in 3 Southern California cities

The fast-food chain restaurant Jack in the Box is currently offering three flavors of boba tea for a limited time in selected locations in California.

Boba tea craze: As the Western palate has grown to become more diverse and boba drinks have risen in ubiquity, three cities in California — San Diego, Long Beach and Torrance — are currently undergoing a test run of the national burger chain’s take on the Asian beverage.

Jack in the Box is not the first popular chain to jump on the trend as companies like Baskin-Robbins, Peet's Coffee and Starbucks have tested or added the drink to their menus over the last year. Boba tea, or bubble tea, is a tea-based drink made with milk or fruit and accompanied with chewy tapioca pearls. The drink originated in Taiwan in the early 1980s.

Flavors: Jack in the Box’s boba tea flavors include: Iced Coffee with Boba, Milk Tea with Boba and Vanilla Shake with Boba.
