Martial arts superstar Jackie Chan is starring in an upcoming action-comedy film as a fictionalized version of himself saving a panda cub.

Actor-turns-hero: The film, titled “Panda Plan,” revolves around a rare baby panda in China being targeted by a tycoon’s international mercenaries for its distinctive dark circle around one eye. Chan plays a version of himself as an international action star reluctantly stepping into the role of a hero to thwart the kidnapping plot.

About the film: “Panda Plan” is directed by mainland Chinese filmmaker Zhang Luan and produced by Mandarin Motion Pictures and Wishart Media Co., reported The Hollywood Reporter. It also stars Shi Ce (“Hi, Mom”), Wei Xiang (“Full River Red”) and Han Yanbo (“The Super Family”).

Announced during the closing day of Tokyo's TIFFCOM content market on Oct. 27, the film is currently in production and being offered to international distributors at the American Film Market. "Panda Plan" is set to be released in 2024.
