Jack's Donuts to close Mishawaka location for Sun King Brewing plans

MISHAWAKA — As Sun King Brewing moves forward with plans to open at The Mill at Ironworks Plaza in Mishawaka, the brewery will also now take over the neighboring Jack's Donuts retail space.

The Indianapolis-based brewery announced plans in December to open a 5,000-square-foot, family-friendly tap room and food hall on the northeastern side of The Mill, 235 Ironworks Drive. In assuming the Jack's Donuts space, the tap room and restaurant will now fill roughly 6,700 square feet of space in the mixed-use development near Beutter Park.

In a release, Sun King's CEO Clay Robinson said the expanded space will allow for more dining space and include a private area for meetings, parties and events.

The new tap room and restaurant is scheduled to open by summer 2022.

Jack's Donuts opened the Mishawaka location in June 2020 and a second location at 623 E. LaSalle Ave. in South Bend in July 2020. Local general manager Matt Oakley said the South Bend location will remain open and fulfill orders from the Mishawaka location. Oakley said the company is looking for other ways to expand in Mishawaka, though a timeline of when that’s expect to occur is still unknown.

“We believe Sun King is going to be great for the community,” Oakley said. “And we are going to work our way back to the Mishawaka area. We just don’t know where or when yet.”

Oakley said Jack's Donuts' last day at its Mishawaka location is Sunday, Jan. 30.
