It looks like Max Jackson’s summer vacation plans are going to change a bit.

La Salle’s two-time Rhode Island Interscholastic League golf champion is going to be taking a trip west later this summer. Jackson finished tied for medalist honors at the USGA Junior Amateur Championship qualifier at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, Connecticut, earning a spot in the Junior Amateur Championship that will be held at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon the last week of July.

Jackson, who will be a junior at La Salle in the fall, shot a 2-under 70 to finish tied with Ian Davis, who is from Orlando, Florida. Jackson's round started well, with a birdie on the par-5 second hole, but back-to-back bogeys on his seventh and eighth holes sent him into the turn at 1 over.

That quickly went to 2-over par after a bogey on the par-3 10th, but Jackson made up for it in a big way with three straight birdies on the next three holes, then making a birdie on No. 16, followed by two pars to close his round and earn his spot in the big tournament.

Hendricken All-Stater Brady Williams was also at River Oaks, but missed the cut with a round of 80.

Williams’ sister got a little closer. Olivia Williams, who wrapped up her freshman season at La Salle with the RIIL Girls State Championship, missed qualifying for the girls U.S. Girls Junior Amateur Championship by two strokes after a round of 75 at Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Williams was among six players at 75 who needed a playoff for the second alternate spot that went to Caroline Chung of Placentia, California.

Three other Rhode Islanders played at Oak Hill, with Moses Brown All-Stater Kylie Eaton shooting a 76 and Vinny Papa, who will be a freshman at Ponaganset next fall, shooting a 79. Adriana Eaton, Kylie’s younger sister, shot an 84.

Rocco Biafore, who's from Wakefield and attends St. George’s School, was also at Oak Hill and shot a 2-over 72, missing the cut by three shots and missing out on an alternate spot by two.
