Jackson County logs 108 weekend COVID-19 cases

Oct. 26—Jackson County recorded 108 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, and no additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Statewide, the Oregon Health Authority on Monday reported 2,293 new COVID-19 cases Friday through Sunday and 12 additional deaths.

Seven of those who died lived in Douglas County, with the rest from Josephine, Malheur, Multnomah and Jefferson counties. They ranged in age from 63 to 102, OHA said.

OHA reported one death in Josephine County but Josephine County Public Health on Monday reported two deaths.

OHA said the COVID-19 database was down from Friday night through most of Saturday, leading to a lower number of reported cases on Monday than expected. When OHA issues its next report on Tuesday, the number of reported new cases may be high as local public health departments work through a backlog.

In recent weeks, the number of hospitalized patients in Jackson and Josephine counties had been falling after peaking at 223 on Sept. 1. The number of hospitalized patients fell to 47 on Oct. 14, but has been steadily rising since then, reaching 72 on Monday, according to hospitalization data.

The number of local COVID-19 patients in intensive care units and on ventilators has also been trending back up, the data shows.

On Monday, there were no open ICU beds in the four hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties. More than 90% of non-ICU beds were full, according to the data.
