Jackson, Hoover, Green, Marlington prominent on list of OHSAA district swim seeds at CSU

The high school swimming and diving season hits fever pitch this week when district meets determine who makes it to the Ohio High School Athletic Association state championships in Canton.

Area athletes will vie for spots in district action in Cleveland. The qualifiers return for the state meet, which runs next Tuesday through Saturday at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

Here's what you need to know about the district swimming, as well as who from the area will be competing:

Where do Canton-area swimmers compete in the OHSAA district meet?

Area swimmers are head to the Busbey Natatorium at Cleveland State University.

What's the Cleveland district time schedule for OHSAA swimming?

District swimming will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in Division II, and noon Saturday in Division I. The diving schedules are 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for Division II and 11:30 a.m. Thursday for Division I.

Here's a rundown of the area's top contenders at districts.

Jackson, Hoover, Green swimmers earn No. 1 seeds

These area individuals swam sectional times that put them in the top 10 among the 32 district qualifiers in each of the Division I events.

JACKSON GIRLS: Sophomore Nina Shulik, No. 1, 200 free and No. 1, 500 free; sophomore Abra Manofsky, No. 2, 50 free and No 5 in 100 free; Jackson freshman Grace Micelli, No. 6, 100 backstroke.

These area relays are among the top 10 seeds in each of the three Division I relays. There are 24 teams in each relay.

Marlington girls swimming lands high seeds in Division II

Marlington senior Claire Cox is the top seed in the 100 freestyle and the No. 2 seed in the 100 breaststroke in the Division II district.

Top-10 seeds of other Dukes include junior Leah Guess, No. 4 in the 100 butterfly and No. 5 in the 100 backstroke, and sophomore Caitlin Cox, No. 9 in the 500 free and No. 10 in the 200 free.

Marlington is seeded No. 2 in the 200 medley relay and No. 4 in the 400 free relay, in which Megan Montgomery swims with the trio listed above.

Alliance sophomore Ben Craig was sectional runnerup in the 100 backstroke and placed third in the 100 freestyle. Other Alliance swimmers heading for districts are Logan McCreedy, Meleah Kerns, Alayjah Smith, Elizabeth Recchiuti and Emma Reese.

Federal League divers on board at Busbey

Six Federal League members have entries in the Division I district diving meet.

Girls include senior Riley Wagner and junior Emmalie Mitzel of Jackson; junior Guinevere Oliver, sophomores Addison Jenkins and Chloe Schans, and freshman Kayla Boylan of Hoover; junior Maya Bautista and sophomore Maria Zwick of GlenOak; junior Landry Torres of Green, and junior Mikayla Mutko of Perry.

Boys include junior Levi Hellman, junior Andon Haines and freshman Amari Wilson of Jackson, and sophomore Jeremy Mitchell of McKinley. Hellman reached last year's state meet and placed 10th.
