Jackson Local school board accepts settlement agreement over e-cigarettes

KEY ACTION: Accepted the settlement agreement with Altria.

DISCUSSION: The board accepted the settlement agreement with Altria Group Inc., Philip Morris USA Inc. and related companies for $26,898. The basis of the lawsuit is that the companies fueled a teen vaping epidemic by selling JUUL Labs e-cigarettes.

OTHER ACTION: Heard a presentation by Angie Liggett, Lake Cable principal, regarding literacy legislation and the two new laws addressing literacy needs, including Ohio’s dyslexia law and the Third Reading Guarantee law. The district is following the new requirements with professional development; screening; interventions; and parent communication.
