Jackson State football star Travis Hunter transfers to Colorado

When former Jackson State football coach Deion Sanders was introduced as the new coach at the University of Colorado, Sanders told the crowd at the press conference that he was bringing his own luggage.

On Thursday, another piece of luggage found its way to Boulder.

The top high-school recruit in the Class of 2022, Travis Hunter, announced on his YouTube channel that, after entering the transfer portal Sunday, he would be a Buffalo. Hunter kept fans in suspense by not announcing his decision until he reached 100,000 subscribers on the channel.

On Wednesday, Hunter reached his goal and signed his commitment letter for everyone to see while putting on a white Colorado baseball hat.

"I'm officially a Buffalo," Hunter said during the video announcement. "Anyways, y'all know what time is going on, y'all know what time it is, man: Prime Time. And I'm part of that Louis (Vuitton) bag."

When Hunter entered the transfer portal, he told social media that he was going to weigh his options and find the best fit for him. During his announcement, Hunter mentioned that several schools were recruiting him: Georgia, Florida, USC, Miami, Florida State and Colorado.

"It is time for the next level," Hunter said on his YouTube channel. "At the end of the day, I went with my heart felt at. It was more like home for me. It is just me and my girlfriend, we made this decision together. I committed to coach Prime when he was at Jackson State, and I want to honor my commitment and stay with him."

This fall, it did not take long for fans to see why Hunter was the No. 1 recruit in the country. In his first game against Florida A&M, Hunter shut down his half of the field in a 59-3 victory.

Hunter missed five games because of injury but, when he returned, made up for lost time. He was a dual threat on offense and defense. Against Alcorn State on Nov. 19, he turned the game around with a 44-yard interception return for a touchdown and put the game away when scored from the receiver position, showing off a toe drag in the corner of the end zone over two Alcorn defenders to score in a 24-13 victory.

In his last game as a Tiger, Hunter scored two touchdowns against North Carolina Central in the Cricket Celebration Bowl. With six seconds to play in the game and Jackson State trailing 34-27, JSU quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw a fade route to the left corner of the end zone, with Hunter making the game-tying catch with no time on the clock forcing overtime.

On the season, Hunter had 18 receptions for 188 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 23.5 yards per catch. On defense, Hunter had 15 tackles, with two interceptions.
