NORTH CANTON – A 20-year-old Jackson Township man has been charged with felony aggravated arson after investigators accused him of setting a fire and causing $80,000 in damage at an apartment building last week.

According to a complaint filed in Canton Municipal Court, the man admitted using a lighter on Feb. 8 to intentionally ignite a piece of paper as he stood in the bedroom of a vacant first-floor apartment at 201 Rose Lane SW.

The fire consumed the bedroom. City firefighters put out the blaze in about 13 minutes. Residents in other apartments temporarily evacuated from their homes. No one was reported hurt, the fire department said.
