Jackson Township man dies after Massillon shooting; suspect's bond set at $1 million

MASSILLON ‒ A city man is facing criminal charges after a man shot Friday morning died over the weekend.

Graydon N. Feichter, 32, made his first court appearance Monday in Municipal Court. Bond was set at $1 million.

Feichter shot a man three times just after 3 a.m. Friday in front of a residence in the 300 block of Shaw Avenue NE, according to Massillon Police Lt. Nick Antonides.

Feichter was initially charged with attempted murder. But he may be facing a more serious charge after the man who was shot, 30-year-old Jeffery Stoll, of Jackson Township, later died.

According to a statement issued by the department, police arrived to find Stoll was unresponsive. Massillon Fire Department first responders took him to Aultman Hospital. Stoll received treatment and was in stable condition in the ICU but succumbed to his injuries over the weekend, Antonides said.

His body was transported to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner for an autopsy. The Stark County Coroner's Office contracts with the medical examiner to conduct autopsies.

Police were initially told the shooting suspect had locked himself in the bathroom, according to a police report. But the shooter was gone when police arrived. A female witness was rendering aid to Stoll.

Feichter was arrested at 5:43 a.m. Friday after Lawrence Township Police Department stopped his vehicle. Feichter was returned to Massillon and later taken to the Stark County Jail.

Antonides declined to comment on the motive for the shooting or if the pair knew each other, adding that is part of an ongoing investigation. Police said they believe the shooting took place outside of the residence, which belonged to a acquaintance of the victim.
