A special election for City Council will determine who fills the seat left vacant by the death of Tommy Hazouri.
Who is running?
Four candidates are on the ballot. They are Nick Howland and Howland "Howdy" Russell, both Republicans, and Tracye Polson and James "Coach" Jacobs, both Democrats. All of them are seeking their first win in a race for elective office. Read more about the candidates here.
Who can vote?
The race is for an at-large seat so any registered voter residing in Duval County can cast a vote. Jacksonville has a "jungle primary" where candidates of all party affiliations face off so all voters, regardless of party registration, can vote in the at-large race.

How long will the winner's term be?
The winner of the special election will fill out the remainder of what would have been Hazouri's full term through the end of June 2023. A citywide election in spring 2023 will determine who is elected for a full-year term, an election cycle that would put the winner of the special election back on the campaign trail.
