Jacksonville Jaguars' opponents for 2022 season set

The rebuilding Jacksonville Jaguars have only four victories over the past two seasons, and they clinched the No. 1 overall pick for the second consecutive season after finishing 3-14 this season.

They won't catch a break for the 2022 season, either.

Jacksonville's 2022 home and away opponents have been unveiled and

include five teams that clinched playoff berths this season — the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans (12-5), Las Vegas Raiders (10-7), Dallas Cowboys (12-5), Kansas City Chiefs (12-5) and the Philadelphia Eagles (9-8).

The Titans clinched the No. 1 seed for the AFC playoffs after winning their second consecutive AFC South. The Jaguars have lost nine of their last 10 games against Tennessee with their only win coming in 2019 at TIAA Bank Field during the span.

The Jaguars have not played the Raiders (10-7), who finished second in the AFC West, since 2019 when they won 20-16 in the final game played at Oakland Coliseum before the Raiders relocated to Las Vegas.

The Jaguars will be playing the Dallas Cowboys for the first time since 2018, when they were routed 40-7 at AT&T Stadium. The NFC East champion Cowboys have not played in Jacksonville since 2006 when the Jaguars won 24-17.

Last season, Kansas City Chiefs lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have won sixth consecutive AFC West titles and have a five-game winning streak against the Jaguars since 2010, including a 40-26 victory in the 2019 opener the last meeting between the teams.

The NFL schedule rotation will have the Jaguars playing all four teams from the AFC West and NFC East. They also will play the fourth-place team from the AFC East and AFC North. And because Jacksonville finished fourth in the AFC South, it will play the fourth-place team from the NFC North, the Detroit Lions.

The Jaguars clinched the 2022 No. 1 overall pick on the final day of the regular season because the Lions upset the Packers, 37-30, to finish 3-13-1 and land the No. 2 overall pick.

Because of the schedule rotation, the Jaguars will have home games against the Broncos, Raiders, Cowboys, Giants and Ravens. That means former Jaguars star defensive players Yannick Ngakoue, who plays for the Raiders, and the Ravens' Calais Campbell will be playing at TIAA Bank Field for the first time since their departures.

The exact dates and times of the Jaguars' 17-game schedule won't be released by the NFL until May.

The Jaguars have had 10 losing seasons in 11 years. The Jaguars also will have a top-five pick in the NFL draft for the eighth time in 11 years.

Khan is hoping for better days ahead once they hire a new coach. The Jaguars have interviewed former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, former Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell, Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and Jaguars interim head coach Darrell Bevell.

The Jaguars also had scheduled interviews with Alabama offensive coordinator and former Texans head coach Bill O'Brien on Thursday, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett Friday and Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus Saturday.

Urban Meyer was fired 13 games into his Jacksonville tenure after he became the franchise's biggest distraction, winning only two games.
