Jacksonville’s Jordan Davis leads second-half run to put away Coastal Georgia; UNF falls to FIU

Jordan Davis scored eight points during a 16-0 run to open the second half and Jacksonville University went on to rout Coastal Georgia 83-54 on Saturday at Swisher Gym.

The Mariners (4-6) led the Dolphins (3-2) 33-31 with 3:26 left in the first half on Kenny Brown’s 3-point shot. JU scored the last six points of the half on two baskets by junior forward Bryce Workman and another by sophomore forward Mike Marsh, with Workman on the assist, to lead 37-33 at halftime.

Box: JU 83, Coastal Georgia 54

Jacksonville then pulled away at the beginning of the second half with Davis, a graduate senior guard, leading the charge. He and Marsh combined to score the first seven points of the half and the run was punctuated by sophomore guard Tommy Bruner’s 3-pointer with 14:37, giving the Dolphins a 53-33 lead.

Osayi Osifo led six players in double figures with 14 points and added six rebounds. Marsh had 13 points, four rebounds and five assists, Davis had 12 points and Workman, Bruner and freshman guard Gyasi Powell, a Bishop Snyder graduate, had 10 points each.

Three nights after shooting .317 in a loss at Minnesota, JU shot .625 (35 of 56).

Brown led all scorers with 21 points.

FIU 84, North Florida 65

Petar Krivokapic scored 11 of his team-high 18 points off the bench in the second half and led a 20-7 run with a pair of 3-point shots to lead the Panthers over the Ospreys on Sunday at the Oceanside Convocation Center in Miami.

UNF (1-7) had rallied from a 36-32 deficit to take a 38-36 halftime lead on Jose Placer's three-point play and Chaz Lanier's 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The game was tied 47-47 with 16:00 left on two free throws by Carter Hendricksen but the Panthers surged ahead to stay, fueled by Krivokapic and Denver Jones from the outside.

The two combined to make 8 of 10 3-point shots. Jones scored 17 points.

Placer led UNF with 22 points and Emmanuel Adedoyin had 11 points and six assists.
