Jacksonville martial arts school celebrates one-year anniversary
RAW MMA, LLC recently celebrated their one-year anniversary earlier this month and have been celebrating with some big news.
This Mixed Martial Arts school, located at 233K Western Blvd offers classes in Brazilian Jiujitsu under the Flavio Behring affiliation, No Gi grappling, Mixed Martial Arts and American Kickboxing. They have a robust Brazilian Jiujitsu competition team, made of adults and children from all over the community.
The Rising Athlete Warriors - Mixed Martial Arts (RAW MMA) team recently competed in Greensboro, NC for the NORTH AMERICAN GRAPPLING ASSOCIATION (NAGA) event on January 14th. The adults won best team in the Gi division, second place for the No Gi division. The children won second place for their team division and our entire school won overall best team. But don’t count those kids out! Prior to this second place finish, the children’s team competed for Fuji BJJ in Clayton, NC and won the championship, competing against 50 different schools. They will defend their title in the upcoming Fuji BJJ event on February 4, 2023.
RAW MMA is owned and operated by local couple, Veronica and Chino Duarte. Chino “THE GRENADE” Duarte is a professional Mixed Martial Artist and Brazilian Jiujitsu brown belt, whose dream was to open his own martial arts school after teaching and coaching at other facilities. Veronica is also an amateur mixed martial artist with several wins under her belts. Both have been training in this sport for over a decade and are bringing their expertise to the local area.
Combat sports are evolving every day and as its popularity gains among the masses, there is a huge market of students who want to learn from professionals. The beauty of the sport is that there is not just one discipline. If you choose to learn at RAW MMA, you will be training in grappling arts such as Brazilian Jiujitsu under the Flavio Behring affiliation. You also gain knowledge in striking arts like American kickboxing. Competitive fighters can also gain a lot from private lessons with Coach Chino. He will help prepare the fighter for any of their upcoming MMA/Boxing/Jiujitsu matches.
Children as young as 5 years old can start in Brazilian Jiujitsu, in our MIGHTY MITES class. They will learn a broad knowledge of jiujitsu skills to take into their competitive life and personal life. Jiujitsu teaches young kids confidence, teamwork, self-respect, self-defense, work ethic, and living a healthier lifestyle.
RAW MMA currently offers afternoon and evening classes throughout the week. Both coaches at RAW MMA also encourage everyone from any background to come in and check out a class: children, women and men are all welcome! Membership is on a month-to-month basis with no contracts! This is ideal for the huge demographic of active-duty families in Jacksonville, NC and the surrounding areas, as long-term contracts can be a tough obligation to fulfill, when the work schedule is unpredictable.
