Jacksonville mother on edge after her 8-year-old son was attacked by stray dog

A Jacksonville mother is on edge after she says her 8-year-old son was attacked by a stray dog in their neighborhood yesterday while playing with his friends.

The dog has since been caught, but she reported this issue to city officials one week prior to that attack.

That mother tells Action News Jax’s Nick Gibson that she feels let down because throughout that entire week she saw the dog in her neighborhood; but when she reported it to city officials, she never heard back.

“He was down at his friend’s house when it happened,” says Amanda Rimer.

Rimer’s 8-year-old son is recovering after being attacked by a Pitbull in her neighborhood.

She says yesterday her son was playing in The Meadows at Country Creek where they live when the attack happened and now, he isn’t the same.

“He’s been really scared, he didn’t want to come outside,” says Rimer.

Rimer says her son was bitten in the face by this tan Pitbull, leaving him with a busted lip and scratches on his back.

She adds she along with her neighbors, reported the stray dog to Jacksonville city officials multiple times through email and phone calls just days before the attack; but nothing was done about it.

“I felt let down because I had reached out. We had reached out we had other neighbors reach out to JSO and animal control to come to get the dog,” says Rimer

Sydney Luna also saw the entire attack unfold in front of her eyes yesterday.

She says her kids played with Rimer’s son outside when she heard screaming.

She adds she also reported the dog before the attack happened, and she was shocked at what she says JSO told her.

“So I called again today and asked if I need to catch the dog and put it in my garage or patio for you all to get it. And they said well that does make the job easier for them,” says Luna.

Both mothers tell me they believe the dog has an owner because it was microchipped, but they don’t know who that owner might be.
