EMMA Concert Association will bring the Jacksonville Symphony to St. Augustine for a Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 22 in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College. The award-winning orchestra will perform a program that includes "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber; "Appalachian Spring Suite" by Aaron Copland; and "Symphony No. 9," “From the New World” by Antonín Dvorak.

The Jacksonville Symphony is one of Northeast Florida’s most important cultural institutions, enjoying a national reputation and regularly heard on "Performance Today!" on more than 250 public radio stations across the country.

“We are delighted to have the Jacksonville Symphony perform during EMMA’s 44th season,” said Joanne Everett, President of the EMMA Concert Association Board of Directors.

Upcoming events

Other upcoming events include The Ocala Symphony Orchestra in February and Dance Alive Ballet in, both in Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College.

The Ocala Symphony Orchestra will be on stage at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4. Matthew Wardell began his tenure as music director and conductor of the Ocala Symphony Orchestra in 2009. When appointed, the Ocala Star-Banner declared, “Wardell brings an impressive resume of musical and conducting training … Maybe more important than his musical credentials is Wardell’s youthful enthusiasm and unabashed zest … Wardell is not only a daring and dynamic choice as the Ocala Symphony Orchestra’s new conductor, but a smart one.”

Dance Alive National Ballet will perform “Loveland” at 7:30 p.m. March 18.  The program will include a romantic mixed repertoire inspired by the “Sonnets from the Portuguese” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Dance Alive National Ballet features an international roster of award-winning dancers, performing classic to contemporary ballet.

The EMMA Board has dedicated the final concert of the EMMA Music Association’s 2022-23 Season to the memory of the late Peter Morin, former director of music at the Anastasia Catholic Church, for his dedication and many contributions to the musical life of St. Augustine and St. Johns County.
