Liberty outfielder Aaron Anderson of Jacksonville was named the ASUN's scholar-athlete of the year this week in the conference's post-season awards prior to the beginning of the ASUN tournament in Ft. Myers.

Anderson, who played high school baseball at Christ's Church, had a 4.0-grade point average while working on his master's in business. He was hitting .313 with six homers and 38 RBI entering the tournament.

ASUN All-Academic team

The University of North Florida had one player named to the first team in a vote of the coaches, senior shortstop Isaiah Byars. He hit .322 with five homers and 27 RBI. The Ospreys had three players named to the second team, sophomore second baseball Aidan Sweatt of Fernandina Beach (.325), junior left-hander pitcher Peter Holden (4-2, 3.22) and senior third baseman Abraham Sequera (.312, 10 homers, 51 RBI).

Holden also made the ASUN All-Academic team, along with teammate Brock Edge, a senior outfielder. Holden has a 3.9 GPA in interdisciplinary studies and Edge has a 3.7 GPA in a master's program in business analytics.

Defending champion Jacksonville University was shut out of the All-ASUN first and second teams, the all-freshman team and the all-academic team. It was the first time the Dolphins were shut out on every team since entering the ASUN in 1999.

Bellarmine graduate left fielder Matt Higgins was named the ASUN player of the year after hitting .366 and slugging .770, with 22 homers and 61 RBI.

The pitcher of the year is sophomore Tyler Cleveland of Central Arkansas. He went 7-2 (all in ASUN games) with a 2.93 ERA, 101 strikeouts and only 16 walks in 95.1 innings. The freshman of the year is Kennesaw first baseman Donovan Cash, who hit .367 with nine homers and 54 RBI.

Freshman shortstop Caleb Ketchup of Lipscomb is the defensive player of the year and Jeff Forehand of Lipscomb was voted coach of the year.
