Jaclyn Beebout behind bars, faces multiple charges
Feb. 25—After more than two weeks of evading police and skipping out on her court dates, Jaclyn Martell Beebout was picked up by the Indiana State Police in Denver.
The 41-year-old Logansport resident was arrested at approximately 2:53 a.m. Thursday and remains behind bars at the Cass County Jail.
Beebout is being held without bond on her Cass Superior Court 1 case, a Level 6 felony charge of possession of methamphetamine. Judge James Muehlhausen set a hearing date for 9 a.m. March 1, followed by a pretrial conference at 9 a.m. March 15, a final pretrial conference at 9 a.m. April 15, and a jury trial at 9 a.m. May 4.
But Thursday morning, she was brought before Cass Superior Court 2 Judge Lisa Swaim on her misdemeanor charge of failure to report human remains.
This case stems from an ongoing death investigation of a woman's body found deceased at 910 22nd St. In a "significant state of decay," the body was later identified as Beebout's mother, Cynthia Newman, 65, of Logansport.
A dog and at least two cats were found at the residence. The animals were taken to the Cass County Humane Society.
The residence has been condemned by the city.
Charges were filed against Beebout on Feb. 2 and a warrant for her arrest was issued that same day. She failed to appear for her initial hearing.
On Thursday, Judge Swaim appointed a public defender to represent Beebout and set bond at $250 cash or $1,000 surety. However, due to the hold without bond in the Superior 1 case, she will be unable to leave the jail.
Her next court date on the misdemeanor case is slated for 9 a.m. April 5, with a bench trial scheduled for 1 p.m. April 26.
