Jaclyn Hill Fans Think They Were Misled About Her Holiday Collection Being Sold Out

Jaclyn Hill isn't having the best of luck with Jaclyn Cosmetics. Only weeks after fans accused the YouTuber of using packaging that resembled Fenty Beauty’s, she's now being accused of lying about the popularity of her new Holiday Collection.

Jaclyn Cosmetics announced it would be restocking the full Holiday Collection, comprised of three different highlighter formulas and brushes, via Instagram on November 27. "If you weren’t able to grab something from your wish list today, don’t worry...we got you!" the brand wrote, announcing the restock, giving fans the impression that the limited collection had sold out.

In an Instagram post on November 15, Jaclyn Cosmetics announced that the “Holiday Collection” would be released on November 26. Later, in a different Instagram post, the brand responded to a fan who inquired whether the collection would be restocked and said the release would be "limited edition" (see screenshot below).

As noted by Cosmopolitan U.K., makeup fans think Jaclyn deliberately gave the impression the products had sold out in an effort to make them seem more covetable. Some beauty enthusiasts believe the collection's "limited-edition" branding was all part of a marketing strategy to sell more product and that the highlighters aren't limited at all, suggesting Jaclyn had allegedly used the popular "sell-out" technique, popularized by brands like Kylie Cosmetics, to create demand for her new line.

"Wasn’t this 'limited edition' collection 'sold out?' So how does something launch (November 26), 'sell out' in a day but have stock to be in almost 40 Morphe stores plus be available online? Weren’t these products 'LIMITED?'" a fan questioned on Twitter. "Unreal. I feel like someone needs to explain to her that lies like this are never a good look. I’m sad for how she’s ended up in 2019 because I applaud change but change for the positive," added another. "Lying to customers as a marketing tactic is tacky and rude."

Other beauty fans have even tagged the FTC, which helps regulate commerce, in their responses. "Please do something about these brands deceiving customers by telling them that permanent items are limited and/or sold out when there is plenty of stock. Brands should be transparent about inventory & not lie to deceive people into thinking something may never be restocked," wrote one.

Jaclyn’s first launch, a line of lipstick, was so fraught with controversy that it led her to delete her social media. Customers were dissatisfied with their lipsticks, citing fuzz, grainy textures, and other issues, and were concerned about the products' safety. "I am very sorry that this launch was not absolutely 100 percent perfect with a bow on," she said at the time. "We will make it right for you. Going forward, we will no longer be experiencing these experiences that we are having."
