Jade Bartlett to Write ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’

Up and coming screenwriter Jade Bartlett is set to write “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” for Marvel studios, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.

Details of the film are still under wraps, but during the Marvel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said the “Doctor Strange” sequel will be “the first scary MCU film.” But, Feige joked “It’s gonna be PG-13 and you’re going to like it!”

It was also revealed during the panel that the Disney+ series “WandaVision” will lead directly into the events of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” and Elizabeth Olsen will appear in both.

The multiverse in the title is an interesting detail. “Spider-Man: Far From Home” featured the villain Mysterio, who (spoiler) claimed to be from an alternate earth in another dimension. Of course, it turned out that he was actually just an extremely skilled con artist who made the whole thing up.

But the original “Doctor Strange” did actually involve real multiverse elements — Strange had to travel into the Dark Dimension, home of Dormammu, in order to save the earth from destruction. So multidimensional doings are absolutely in his wheelhouse.

Bartlett’s script “Miller’s Girl” was voted to the 2016 Black List of Hollywood’s best-unproduced screenplays and was optioned by Good Universe for Bartlett to direct and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey banner to produce.

Bartlett is represented by UTA, Heroes and Villains Entertainment and attorney Matthew Wallerstein.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will be released on May 7, 2021.

Collider first reported the news.
