Borussia Dortmund are reportedly in advanced talks to bring back Jadon Sancho on loan from Manchester United in order to bolster their squad after a modest first part of the Bundesliga season.

German and English news reports said that Dortmund would have to pay around €3 million ($3.3 million) for the 23-year-old English international to join them until the end of the season.

Neither club has confirmed the talks, and it is also unclear whether a potential deal would include an option to make the move permanent in summer.

Sancho played for Dortmund 2017-2021, scoring 50 goals and providing 64 assists in 137 matches.

He then joined United for €85 million but never managed a breakthrough there, and has not played since September after criticising manager Erik ten Hag.

Sancho is said to have agreed on a Dortmund return which could help him return into the national team for this year's Euros in Germany.

Germany's Bild paper said the deal could be done within the next days, provided that no other club is willing to sign him permanently for a big fee.

Should a deal be struck soon, Sancho could join Dortmund on a winter break training camp in southern Spain. The team left for Marbella on Wednesday to train there for six days.

Dortmund are fifth in the Bundesliga in an inconsistent season, six points off the top four and 15 points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

They start the second part of the season on January 13 at bottom club Darmstadt.

Dortmund said before Christmas they would stick with Edin Terzic as coach but he has two new assistants in former Dortmund players Sven Bender and Nuri Sahin.

Not part of the trip to Spain are the injured Karim Adeyemi, Felix Nmecha and Julian Ryerson, as well as Ramy Bensebaini and Sebastien Haller who are on national team duty at the Africa Cup of Nations which starts next week.

Instead, several youngsters led by German under-17 World Cup winner Paris Brunner are part of the squad.
