Jaemyn Brakefield will stay with Ole Miss basketball, play for Chris Beard after entering transfer portal

OXFORD — The first major transfer portal win for Ole Miss men's basketball coach Chris Beard involves a player who wore a Rebels jersey last season.

Jaemyn Brakefield, who announced his intent to test the transfer portal following Kermit Davis' departure, posted via Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that he intends to stay with Ole Miss after all.

"Oxford is home to me," Brakefield, a forward, wrote. "Coach Beard and I have discussed his vision for not only this next season but competing for championships in the best league in the country. Excited for this great ride ahead of us. Hotty Toddy!"

Brakefield was arguably Ole Miss' best player down the stretch of the season. In the final 11 games, he averaged 14.8 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 55.7% from the floor.

For the full season, Brakefield posted 11.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. The former Duke transfer and Jackson native has one season of eligibility remaining.
