Incoming Indiana University senior and Box Office Clerk Sarah Cassidy said she’s always loved music and theater. She’s loved Alanis Morissette’s music since she was young and has frequently used it for auditions as a voice performance major.

“It's just really empowering, amazing music that she makes,” she said.

The jukebox musical “Jagged Little Pill” inspired by Morissette’s album is coming to the IU Auditorium April 3 and 4, 2023.

Cassidy said she’s excited to see the musical next spring. The IU Auditorium is expecting a big turnout for the show and she said she encourages everyone to come check it out. After closing for a time during the pandemic and transitioning to outdoor events, the box office has returned to normal operations, she said.

Loyalty Points members and new subscribers can place orders and select seats before tickets are on sale to the public. Single ticket pre-order is from Aug. 1 to 14 and single tickets go on sale Aug. 15.

IU Auditorium Executive Director Doug Booher saw the Broadway musical in New York.

“I knew from the critical acclaim that it was a great show, but then actually sitting in the audience, and having an opportunity to experience it in person was incredible,” he said.

The show tackles contemporary challenges such as teenagers struggling with identity, social pressures, meeting parents’ expectations and addiction, Booher said.

“The openness with which those topics are explored was really positive,” he said.

Booher said he loved the rawness of this show, how it depicted the whole picture rather than glossing over darker topics and trying to focus on the bright side.

The performance at IU will look almost identical to the Broadway production, Booher said. Professional Broadway actors and members of the Actors’ Equity Association, the trade union of professional performers, will make up the cast.

“When people see the show on stage, they’ll really be blown away by the way the show is put together and the production value of it, in addition to the fact that the cast will be supremely talented,” he said.

Both residents and students in Bloomington as well as folks from all over Indiana will be drawn to the show, Booher said, particularly because of Morissette’s music. The popular songs are embedded into the show in a thoughtful way, he said.

“The songs are so intricately interwoven into the plot of the show,” he said. “The mark of a great musical, I think, is when the music advances the story.”

Prices for the musical vary for students and non-students, where in the house you’re seated and how early you buy tickets, Booher said. There are 3,200 seats in the theater.
