Jagger Eaton, Pamela Rosa win Street League Skateboarding championship in Jacksonville

For Jagger Eaton and Pamela Rosa, a weekend in Jacksonville turned into a winning experience to savor.

Even if they ended up having to work a little overtime for their reward.

Eaton, the Olympic bronze medalist from the summer in Tokyo, won the men's title and Rosa repeated her women's series championship in Sunday's final day of the Street League Skate Super Crown World Championship in Jacksonville.

Both could have missed Sunday's finals entirely, having to advance through Saturday's preliminary round of last chance qualifiers. Eaton barely emerged from the qualifiers, only edging Carlos Ribeiro of Brazil by 0.4 points for the eighth and final berth in the finals.

Once he took to the downtown Jacksonville skate course Sunday, though, there was no stopping the 20-year-old from Mesa, Ariz. Eaton scored 27.5 points to top Lucas Rabelo of Brazil and Gustavo Ribeiro of Portugal, ending the three-year title streak of California's Nyjah Huston.

Reigning women's champion Rosa, from Brazil, entered fifth in the series standings and also had to fight through Saturday's qualifiers. But she used scores of 7.7 and 8.1 — highest of the weekend — on her final tricks to finish ahead of Olympic silver medalist Rayssa Leal of Brazil and gold medalist Momiji Nishiya of Japan.

The two-day competition, held at the former site of the Jacksonville Landing, brought together more than 30 elite skateboarders from around the world.
