Jaguars cornerback Shaq Griffin, Chargers QB Justin Herbert listed as questionable for Sunday

Both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Los Angeles Chargers will head into Sunday's matchup with big questions at important positions.

On Friday, Jaguars cornerback Shaq Griffin and Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert were officially listed as questionable to play Sunday.

Griffin was listed on the team's injury report due to a hip injury and is the only player listed on the game status report. He was not listed on the report Wednesday or Thursday.

Herbert entered the week with a rib cartilage injury, an injury suffered during the Chargers' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last Thursday. He did not practice on Friday.

If Herbert is unable to suit up on Sunday, backup QB Chase Daniel would take his place as the team's starter. Daniel has reportedly received first-team reps at QB this week during the media availability portion of practices.

The Chargers also listed wide receiver Keenan Allen (hamstring), right tackle Trey Pipkins (foot) and tight end Donald Parham (hamstring) as questionable, while cornerback JC Jackson (ankle) and center Corey Linsley (knee) are listed as doubtful.

In addition to Herbert not participating in Friday's practice, Allen, Jackson and Linsley were also held out of action.

Jacksonville will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday and the game is set to kick off at 4:05 p.m. ET.

More Jaguars coverage:

Until now, the Jaguars have had a clean bill of health after the team's Week 1 loss to the Commanders. No players had been listed on the injury report until today.

On Wednesday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson was asked about the team's health. He said at the time that it was a good thing, but to "knock on wood."

“Again, it’s a credit to the players for coming in and how they’ve worked in the weight room and their conditioning and all that," Pederson said. "You see it. We practice hard during the week. Right now, it’s been pretty clean. We’ve come out of both games relatively clean other than just some minor bumps and bruises.”

If Griffin is unable to go, it is unclear who would start in his place, though Chris Claybrooks is currently listed as his immediate backup, according to the team's Week 3 depth chart. Claybrooks, entering his third year with the club, was drafted in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Memphis.

The Jaguars could also use veteran CB Tre Herndon. Herndon is entering his fifth year with the team after being signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018.
