Jaguars' Jim Bob Cooter expected to be named Colts offensive coordinator, per report

Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter is expected to be named the offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts, according to a report by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Indianapolis is still finalizing its coaching staff after hiring former Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as the team's head coach shortly after the Super Bowl. Cooter was interviewed by the Carolina Panthers for their O.C. position, but that job ultimately went to Thomas Brown.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers also requested to interview Cooter.

Cooter, 38, spent last season as Jacksonville's passing game coordinator as part of head coach Doug Pederson's inaugural staff with the Jaguars. Cooter worked primarily with the team's franchise quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, and assisted the team's offense in various ways, including game planning against the team's opponents.

Previously, Cooter spent time as the offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions from 2016-18. He has worked with Steichen previously as well, working as a consultant with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021.

The Jaguars were one of the most explosive passing offenses in the league last season, ranking 10th in passing yards per game at 233.5 yards per game and 12th in completion percentage at 65.40 percent.

Lawrence blossomed with the team last year, completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He participated in the Pro Bowl as an alternate shortly prior to the Super Bowl.

The Jaguars won the AFC South after completing a 9-8 record, ultimately splitting with the Colts, 1-1 while sweeping the Titans and splitting their series against the Texans as well.

Cooter's likely leave will give Jacksonville another position to fill if they choose to do so. The team has already filled its wide receivers coach role by hiring Chad Hall, while they added to the offensive staff, hiring Greg Austin as an offensive quality control coach.
