Times are tough all over and after eight consecutive years of being fourth on the list of wealthiest NFL owners by Forbes, the Jaguars' Shad Khan has come down a couple of notches.

Khan is now sixth and has fallen from the top spot among AFC owners.

Khan's net worth, as compiled by Forbes, has declined for the first time since he purchased the team in 2012. Khan's trucking parts and sports empire, which also includes the Fulham Football Club in England and AEW Wrestling (co-owned with his son Tony) has been estimated by Fobes at $7.6 billion, down from $8 billion in 2021 and lower than his 2020 net worth of $7.86 billion.

It also dropped Khan to sixth among NFL owners, behind David Tepper of Carolina ($17.4 billion), Stan Kroenke of the Los Angeles Rams ($10.7 billion), Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys ($10.6 billion), Robert Kraft of New England ($8.3 billion) and Stephen Ross of Maimi ($8.2 billion).

Net worths for the purposes of Forbes' rankings were locked in during March. Forbes also has a real-time net worth and when the list was posted online on Tuesday, Khan's worth had actually touched last year's $8 million. It was $7.7 million as of Wednesday.

Khan had led all AFC owners in net worth last season, with Ross second and Kraft third.

Khan bought the Jaguars for $770 million at a time when his net worth was $2.5 billion. Forbes lists him as the 313th richest man in the world.

Tepper, whose fortune comes from hedge funds, increased his net worth by 15 percent to make him the richest NFL owner for the fourth year in a row. He is eighth worldwide among all sports owners.

Kroenke, who is also the richest NHL owner (the Colorado Avalanche) and Jones both cracked the $10 billion mark this year.

The richest pro sports team owner according to Forbes is L.A. Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, whose fortune increased 33 percent to $91.4 billion. He supplanted Mumbai Indians cricket owner Mukesh Ambani ($90.7 billion), whose worth went up 7 percent.

Ballmer and Ambani have traded the top spot several times since 2016.

Forbes attributed Ballmer's increase to his stock holdings in Microsoft. He was the CEO from 2000-2014.

Ambani owns Reliance Industries, a multi-national conglomerate that is involved in energy, petrochemicals, textiles, natural resources, retail and telecommunications.

The top-five richest sports owners also include Francois Pinault, owner of France's Stade Rennas FC ($40.4 billion), Dietrich Mateschitz, owner of Red Bull Racing and the New York Red Bulls soccer team ($27.4 billion) and Daniel Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers ($22 billion).

Gilbert's fortune has experienced the most precipitous drop at 58 percent. He owns Quicken Loans/Rocket Companies.

The wealthiest Major League Baseball owner is Steve Cohen of the New York Mets ($17.4 billion).
