It was all smiles at TIAA Bank Field for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence as he gets set to embark on his third year in the league, and second year under head coach Doug Pederson.

The Jaguars met together as a team this week for the first time since the season, the start to offseason workouts and training that comes prior to training camp in July.

For Lawrence, the biggest difference in this year's offseason compared to those of years past is he doesn't have to learn a new playbook. When meeting with the media for the first time this offseason, Lawrence confessed there was a sense of comfort knowing he didn't have to deal with a new offensive system. Instead, he's able to build off of what the team did last year.

"Definitely there's some comfort in knowing that I already know the system, and our guys, our core group of guys already know," said Lawrence, noting that some new players such as Calvin Ridley will have to take a little time to get caught up.

"I think it was nice this offseason being able to focus a little bit more just on the physical side of training and get my body right, especially after a long year with some lingering injuries, little stuff from the season, so [I] had a chance to take a little break, help some of that heal up and then really work on my body and obviously prepping."

Lawrence dealt with a toe injury during the latter portion of the Jaguars' season last year. Now, he's fully healthy and ready to attack the upcoming season with a couple of new pieces added to the mix.

After a stellar second year that saw Lawrence throw for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, the young QB can build off of what he learned under Pederson and the team's offensive staff.

Trevor Lawrence's prep improves with 'full library' of plays to study

There's no shortage of game film for Lawrence to study this year with the team playing 19 games last year, including two in post-season action.

During the offseason following the 2021 season, Lawrence's prep looked a bit different. The team was undergoing a regime change with Urban Meyer fired after just 13 games and Pederson taking over after a 3-14 campaign. The film that Lawrence watched then wasn't necessarily to get better with the playbook or even the formations.

"I'm watching the tape like, the plays don't matter," Lawrence said with a laugh of the 2021 season game film, "because that's not going to be our terminology, we're not going to be running those plays, a lot of our guys are changing, so the tape wasn't useless, but to some degree, it was hard to use that to plan for this season."

Instead, he used that time to study his own mechanics and prepare to learn a new playbook moving forward.

Now, Lawrence doesn't have to do much of that at all. He can still study his mechanics and work to get better in that area, but he also has a chance to see what he can do differently on any given play within the playbook.

"Now, we have a full library of 19 games from last year that we can use and see 'this is our offense, this is who we became throughout the year,'" Lawrence explained.

"A lot of the guys are the same. Obviously, you want to evolve and get better but you can look at stuff that, 'hey what can we do better?' 'Now that we have Calvin [Ridley] how's that going to change our offense? What stuff that we can do with him?"

Lawrence spent some time away from the sport to heal and regroup but now is ready to roll as the team continues Phase One, continuing to rise on the playoff campaign the team enjoyed a season ago.

"We feel like that's the floor," Lawrence said of last season when asked about rising expectations for the team and himself. "I mean, that's the only expectation we think of for ourselves, but I just don't think it's good to pay attention to that stuff. We know we're capable of and we've added more talent and the sky's the limit for us."

Lawrence assigns 'freak' label to Calvin Ridley

Though it is the offseason of continuity for much of the Jaguars' roster, one player that is new to the group is standout wideout Ridley, who was acquired by the Jaguars at the trade deadline last year despite Ridley being suspended.

Ridley and Lawrence have thrown together a few times, the quarterback said. That includes a session at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville's Knight Campus.

Lawrence's first impressions of Ridley met his expectations as he continues to get to know his new teammate.

"He's been awesome. He's hungry. He's excited to be here. He's got the right attitude. I think that's the biggest thing that I've noticed. And then on the field, I mean, he's a freak, just the way he runs routes, how explosive he is, great hands," Lawrence said.

"Obviously, we just started but seems like he's picking it up pretty quickly. He has that experience and he's played for a few years, so he's used to having some new systems and having to learn that. He's been great. I'm just excited to have him be a part of our room."

Ridley comes to Jacksonville with an excellent resume. In his last full year in the league with Atlanta, the then-budding star receiver caught 90 passes for 1,374 yards and nine touchdowns.

Now, he will be part of an offense that was ranked 10th in the league, with a quarterback that's entering the start of his prime years as an NFL quarterback — a solid combination.
