Nine Catalan leaders who were jailed for their roles in a 2017 bid for independence from Spain walked free from prison on June 23, after the Spanish government issued partial pardons and commuted their sentences.

This footage, by Salvador Verges, shows former labor minister Dolors Bassa leaving the Puig de les Basses prison in Girona to cheers from supporters.

Local news reports said Bassa was the last to leave prison, following former Catalan parliament president Carme Forcadell, who was in a women’s prison in Barcelona. Former Catalan vice-president, Oriol Junqueras, left the Lledoners prison in Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, along with Joaquim Forn, Jordi Sànchez, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull and Josep Rull.
