Jailed Ohio man accused of assaulting deputy during transport

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WCMH) — A Pike County man currently incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail is being charged for an alleged physical altercation with a sheriff’s deputy.

Jimmy L. Mills, 39, is facing charges of felonious assault on a law enforcement officer and aggravated robbery for an incident that occurred on U.S. 35 West in Wayne Township.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to a report of an officer in distress at 5:17 a.m. on Jan. 23. When Fayette County deputies arrived at the scene, they found that Mills and a Pike County deputy had been involved in a physical altercation with one another.

An investigation into the incident found that while being transported, Mills removed a portion of the transfer cage. He then attempted to break out of the van before using the metal partition to assault the deputy when they stopped the vehicle. The deputy reported that Mills tried to take his firearm from its holster before running away. Mills was later taken into custody.

Mills is currently incarcerated in the Fayette County Jail facing the previously mentioned felony charges, as well as charges from the Pike County Sheriff’s Office.
