YouTuber faces backlash for throwing dangerous party in spite of social distancing rules: 'Disregard for everything'

YouTuber Jake Paul has found himself at the center of yet another controversy just weeks after facing criminal charges for criminal trespass and unlawful assembly.

He’s facing backlash after throwing a day-long party at his home in Calabasas, California, on July 11. According to Insider, it appeared to follow a six-location shoot for an upcoming music video.

It didn’t take long for photos and videos of large groups of maskless guests assembled inside and outside Paul’s mansion to surface on social media.

Many of the guests, who were shown drinking, dancing and swinging from heavy machinery parked outside Paul’s home, were easily identifiable social media stars, like Tana Mongeau, Bryce Hall and Arman Izadi.

Concerned neighbors sent some of the footage to the Calabasas mayor’s office, according to Fox 11.

“They’re having this large party, no social distancing, no masks, it’s just a big, huge disregard for everything that everybody is trying to do to get things back to functioning,” Calabasas Mayor Alicia Weintraub told the outlet.

She said the guests were “acting like COVID doesn’t exist.”

It certainly does exist — on July 13, Governor Gavin Newsom ordered all indoor bars, restaurants, movie theaters and “family entertainment” establishments to shut down.

In response to this incident, Weintraub told Insider she would be cracking down on events like this.

“The City of Calabasas will be enforcing a zero-tolerance [policy] for large gatherings that defy local public health orders,” she said. “I am committed to keeping our community safe and we are working with the Lost Hills Sheriff Station to ensure enforcement.”
