Jalen Green striving to become Rockets’ franchise superstar

Houston Rockets rookie Jalen Green on Monday expressed his excitement over the start of training camp this week, and with that came several objectives for himself.

Green enters the season motivated to perform at a high level after a strong showing in the Las Vegas Summer League. He was named to the all-summer league second team after averaging 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and two assists in three games.

The second overall pick is aiming to win NBA Rookie of the Year while he also wants to show that he should have been the top selection in the draft. On top of that, a long-term goal of his is to develop into a superstar with the Rockets.

Green knows that objective is possible, but much further down the line.

I don’t think (the team wants) to put too much on me right now just because of all of the media that has been going on about how they want me to take over the team. I don’t think they are really trying to force it on me. I think they want it to happen naturally. … I want that, for sure. It is going to happen. I just need to keep working, I’m young. I still have a lot of time, a lot to learn.

The 19-year-old previously said wants to come into Houston and help lead the organization to sustained success. He believes that the expectations placed upon himself can play a big factor in the Rockets turning things around.

His experience playing in the G League gives him a bit of an edge over some of the other rookies in the class, which should make for a smooth transition. He has drawn high comparisons to some greats because of his skillset, something that could ensure he reaches that superstar status.
