One of the Jersey Shore’s hottest Grateful Dead tribute acts is ready to jam for a good cause this weekend.

Cosmic Jerry Band brings its fifth annual Back the Bowl Fest to Asbury Lanes in Asbury Park Saturday. A position of the proceeds from ticket sales support the Asbury Park Music Foundation, which works for music education for Asbury Park area kids.Pack the Bowl Fest runs will also feature performances by local jam legend Mark Diomede, Neil Young tribute Decade, Pocket That Bread, Honey Wild, Ty Mares Trio, Uke Island Vibe, Joshua Nemeth, Desert Jellies, the Green Dream and more. Local craft vendors and artists will also be on site with their wares.

Jazz and blues take the stage in Long Branch

The Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation’s 21st annual Long Branch Jazz and Blues Festival hits the Great Lawn on Saturday.

The festival features performers including the Sonny Kenn Band, Ghost Town Blues Band, the Burners, Bethe Burns and the Legends, Paul Plumeri and Charlie Apicella and Iron City Jazz, with music running from 1 to 9 p.m.

The day will also include food trucks, crafters and other vendors on the Long Branch boardwalk, with a fireworks show following the music.

Dandy Wellington brings classic cool to Manasquan

Bandleader Dandy Wellington is bringing the sound and spirit of the Jazz Age to the Jersey Shore for a performance 3 p.m. Sunday at the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan.

Wellington and his band are swinging into town as part of the theater’s Algonquin Jazz Series, which will also include James Langton’s New York All star Big Band on Nov. 13 and Dan Levinson and Molly Ryan on March 12, 2023.

'Mary Poppins' help homeless pets

Artist Collective Troupe, founded in 2021 to "highlight the arts within our community and to give back by hosting fundraisers and supporting other local nonprofits," presents a live performance of "Mary Poppins" this weekend.

A portion of proceeds will benefit Rescue Ridge animal rescue group, which helps find homes for hard-to-place rescued cats and dogs around Monmouth and Ocean counties. To learn more about Rescue Ridge, visit rescueridge.com.

The kids and teen production is set for Aug. 26 to 28, with sign language interpretation available on Aug. 27.

Comedy in Lakewood

"Comedy Stars of Monmouth" hits the Strand Theater in Lakewood on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Headliner Joseph Anthony of Howell has been seen on "Last Comic Standing" and "The View," as well as at Borgata Casino Comedy Club in Atlantic City and comedy clubs nationwide.

He's been heard with Howard Stern, Big Joe Henry, Steve Trevelise and more. Anthony also is a writer for "NoFiltr Comedy Show" and is working on a new pilot, "American Fun."

Pop-punk in Asbury Park

Better late than never.

The Simple Plan and Sum 41 co-headlining Blame Canada tour finally hits the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park on Friday, Aug. 26 and Saturday, Aug. 27 after being postponed in May when a member of the Sum 41 touring party tested positive for COVID-19.

Everyone's better — and they even added a show on Saturday. Previously purchased tickets will be honored on Friday.

For punk-pop geography buffs, Sum 41 is from Ontario and Simple Plan hails from Montreal.

For Next Week: Learn how to make a charcuterie board

From 7 to 9 p.m. next Wednesday, Aug. 31, Kneaded by Lady J in Brielle will be hosting a public charcuterie board-making class.

Students will learn about different types of cheeses and the milk used to make them, as well as how to style, cut and plate the cheese. Cheeses will be paired with nuts, breads, crostini, crackers, roasted vegetables, jams, fruits and other sweet snacks. The class will also include an instruction on salami roses and rivers.
