Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray has been ruled out for the season after tearing his ACL, his team have confirmed.

The guard underwent scans after he went down injured during the Nuggets’ defeat by the Golden State Warriors on Monday.

The 24-year-old has averaged 21.2 points per game this season and is one of the key players on a Nuggets team who had recently won 17 of 20 games in the NBA.

Murray was one of the breakout stars of the NBA bubble last season, and helped lead the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals while averaging 25.6 points.

The Nuggets were tipped to be a contender for the NBA title this season, following Murray’s breakout playoff run and the continued MVP-level performances of Nikola Jokic, and are currently fourth in the Western Conference.

In a statement, the Nuggets said: “Jamal Murray has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee. He will be out indefinitely.”
